Rowley Leigh and Charlie McVeigh?s new flagship, Le Cafe Anglais, is a restaurant that is set to become the benchmark restaurant of the next decade. Named after the greatest Parisian restaurant of the nineteenth century, Le Café Anglais was founded in honour of the peace treaty between England and France in 1815. Filmgoers may remember that the heroine of Babette?s Feast learnt her trade at the Café Anglais under the watchful eye of chef patron Adolphe Duglere, the creator of classic dishes such as Pommes Anna, Potage Germiny and Sole Duglere. Its resurrection in London is both an act of homage and an acknowledgement of the swing in gastronomic prestige from Paris to London. It intends to be both proudly English and yet utterly unashamed of our debt to France. The new restaurant will operate from a landmark, elevated site with its own exclusive entrance and lift on Porchester Gardens, with views across the rooftops and looking up Queensway to the park. Seating 170 people.
